How do you know you're hearing the right voice?
I remember it well.
It's been a couple months now, but I still remember like it was yesterday, the uncertainty.
I knew God was telling me to walk away from my television news job, but to go where?
Why wasn't I hearing clearly about the NEXT STEP?
"There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death." -Proverbs 14:12 NKJV
I was determined not to make any decision that would not only injure myself, but my wife and three kids.
The goal was simple: obey God.
It's clear in the bible that obedience is better than sacrifice. That is to say, it's better to just do what the Lord tells you to do than to show up at church every Sunday and memorizing scripture.
The method of your life is not as important as the substance.
In my latest video on the [faith feed.] YouTube channel, I speak about my experience with asking the question, "Where Is God?" You can see the video on this website or here: https://youtu.be/BpXUuzAQg8M
I'm not naturally a patient person.
I'm quite naturally an impatient person.
But I've learned it's better to get the right answer, than the quick answer.
God's way leads to blessing. My way leads to building my own kingdom that will certainly fall.
For some reason I tend to think just because my heart is seeking God that He is answering my beck and call when I'm ready for the answer.
But timing is everything.
God is a master orchestrator. He knows the tune, the tempo, the talent and the audience. He knows the time the show should start and end. And He knows how to put everyone in the symphony on the same page.
While He's working, it's easy for me to start questioning if I've misheard or if I'm starting to go out on my own.
And I don't want to do that.
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way." -Psalms 37:23 NKJV
At the time, I had a healthy concern about making the wrong decision.
What's so interesting, is looking at the video testimony now, I am surprised I was not certain about leaving TV news.
I was still making connections and taking interviews.
The entire time I was trying to make something happen, God was smiling on me and conducting a master stroke of eternal genius.
He was working on my heart to surrender.
"But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." -1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV
So, I was asking the right question.
And the wrong question.
It's not really about "Where Is God?"
I was looking to catch up with Him.
I should've been asking, "Where is God taking me?"
He was already at work in my heart.
He was right there, and He was already working.
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." -John 10:27 NKJV
So, as I was seeking Him and looking to discern His voice, I learned how to differentiate my voice from His.
It's not foolproof, but it's a good way to cut out the noise.
I was thinking about money.
God doesn't think about money.
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." -Matthew 6:24 NIV
Money is no object to Him. He's thinking about getting His purposes accomplished.
While we're thinking about money, He's thinking about eternity.
"Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.'" -John 6:29 NKJV
The revelation was this...
If I'm thinking of myself as I make my plans, it's probably not God's voice.
But if I'm surrendering to the idea that God wants to use me to bless someone else...
It's likely His plan.
I pray this helps you make the next leap of faith toward your purpose being fulfilled.
There are countless people looking for what's inside of you!
God bless you.
